The 4th Indonesian Coal Outlook Conference 2019

February 28, 2019 – JW Marriot Hotel Jakarta

Background

CoalAsia Magazine and Petromindo are delighted to host the 4th Indonesian Coal Outlook conference in 2019 to discuss the most impactful topics in coal mining industry as price of mainly low to medium-CV coal have shrunk fast in the recent months.

Many say that the 2019 would be a tough year for coal mining companies in Indonesia. Some uncertainties from regulatory changes, trend of supply and demand, commodity price, the lack of heavy equipment and the disruption of digital technology could haunt the sector this year.

The government's coal reference price (HBA) for December 2018 was set at US$92.51 per ton FOB, the lowest in the past six months. The reference price hit the highest level in August at $107.83 per ton. The lower HBA price is in line with the declining price of coal in international market triggered by an oversupply situation in market as China restricted import while demand in India weakened.

Meanwhile, the coal quality from Indonesia has also continued to fall, as the high and mid-CV reserves deplete.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan has told the country's coal mining industry to start entering downstream side of the industry in a bid to shield against the impact of commodity price volatility.

The 4th outlook conference would bring together decision makers, CEOs and experts in coal industry to discuss the outlook of Indonesian coal industry in 2019 and unlocking business opportunities in coal downstream industry from technology, financing and direct investment in coal gasification and coal upgrading.
