PT Jasa Daya Chevron (JDC), a unit of Chevron Geothermal Indonesia Ltd. (CGI), has completed a preliminary survey of geothermal potential in Geureudong, Aceh, and the report was submitted to the government in March, according to an official of the company.

?There is early indication that its potential is approximately 110 MW. However, after seeing our report the government will formally establish a geothermal working area and its capacity, which will then be tendered,? CGI General Manager for Policy, Government & Public Affairs Paul E. Mustakim told Petromindo.com.

He added that the company is waiting for the working area to be immediately put on tender by the government.

JDC had been assigned by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, through Ministerial Decree No. 1905/2013, to carry out preliminary survey in Geureudong. The 12-month survey work covered geological, geophysical, and geochemical aspects, covering an area of 108,500 hectares, encompassing three regencies including Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, and North Aceh.

Chevron has been developing geothermal energy in Indonesia since the 1980s, producing electricity with total capacity of 647 MW through Chevron Geothermal Salak, Ltd. (377 MW) and Chevron Geothermal Indonesia Ltd. (270 MW).
