Chinese firm eyes Cisolok geothermal project

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that a Chinese company has expressed interest to develop a geothermal project in Cisolok, Sukabumi Regency, West Java Province.

?There?s a Chinese company which wishes to enter the geothermal project in Cisolok,? said Director of Geothermal Yunus Saefulhak at the Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, to Petromindo.com, but did not disclose the identity of the firm.

Yunus said that there has been rising interest from investors to develop geothermal power plant projects in the country. Among of the investors is SGX-listed KS Orka Renewables Ltd, which this portal reported previously plans to invest up to US$2 billion over a five-year period to develop a combined 500 MW geothermal power plants in Indonesia. KS Orka currently owns the 240 MW Sorik geothermal power plant project in North Sumatra.
