IDX-listed energy firm PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk said that construction of the first unit of the 3x110 MW Sarulla geothermal power plant in North Sumatra is projected to be completed in 2016.
It said in a statement Monday that completion of the second and third units are expected in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
?Construction is currently in progress, and drilling of four production wells are currently being carried out at two Sarulla geothermal fields,? Medco said.
Medco Energi through subsidiary PT Medco Power Indonesia is a member of a consortium developing the Sarulla geothermal power plant project. Other members of the consortium are Itochu, Kyushu, and US geothermal firm Ormat Technologies.
Last year, the consortium signed a $1.17 billion project financing agreements to finance the development and construction of the power plant project with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and six commercial banks.
