Govt hopes Simbolon Samosir geothermal power plant to be completed in 2024

The planned 110 MW Simbolon Samosir geothermal power plant is targeted by the government to start operation in 2024 if construction can start next year.
Director Geothermal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Yunus Saefulhak said in a statement obtained on Tuesday that the government will soon hold tender for the 168,000-ha geothermal working area, spanning four regencies in North Sumatra including Samosir, Toba Samosir, Tapanuli Utara, Humbang Hasundutan and Dairi.
The statement said the ministry recently held a campaign to promote the project to the local community.
The government has set a target to bolster geothermal power plant capacity in the country to 7,239 MW by 2025 from the current capacity of 1,493.5 MW.
