Govt to auction 25 geothermal working areas

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will auction a total of 25 geothermal Workings Area will be tendered within three years from 2016 through 2018.
Yunus Saefulhak, Director of Geothermal at the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), explained that the working areas have potential resources of 1165 MW and require more than US$ 4.5 billion in investment.
The government has a strong commitment to increasing the utilization of geothermal energy to meet the country?s increasing energy needs, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, increase the national electrification ratio as well as contribute to the global efforts or reducing carbon emissions, he said a presentation on Friday during the Bali Clean Energy Forum 2016.
