Govt to offer 8 geothermal working areas to investors this year

8 working areas will be offered to SOEs

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will offer eight geothermal working areas to investors through tender and give another eight working areas to state owned enterprises (SOEs) through assignment this year.

The tender will be officially announced during the 4th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2016 which officially opens today (Wednesday), Geothermal Director Yunus Saifulhak told Petromindo.com

The eight working areas that will be offered to investors through tender in 2016 are:
1. Graho Nyabu (Jambi)
2. Mt. Hamiding (North Maluku)
3. Mt. Galunggung (West Java)
4. Mt. Wilis (East Java)
5. Mt. Ciremai (West Java)
6. Mt. Simbolon Samosir (North Sumatra)
7. Mt. Geureudong (Aceh)
8. Mt. Pandan (East Java)

The eight working areas that will be given to SOEs through assignment in 2016 are:
1. Arjuno Welirang (East Java)
2. Umbul Telomoyo (Central Java)
3. Kotamobagu (North Sulawesi)
4. Iyang Argopuro (East Java)
5. Songa Wayaua (North Maluku)
6. Atadei (East Nusa Tenggara)
7. Sembalun (West Nusa Tenggara)
8. Tangkuban Perahu 1/Ciater (West Java)

Besides, Yunus said, the ministry will give eight other working areas to SOEs through assignment next year. They are as follows:
1. Telaga Ranu (North Maluku)
2. Mt. Endut (Banten)
3. Sekincau (Lampung)
4. Songgoriti (East Java)
5. Kepahiang (Bengkulu)
6. Bonjol (West Sumatra)
7. Sipaholon Ria Ria (North Sumatra)
8. Suwaw (Gorontalo)

He said the ministry targets geothermal installed capacity for 2019 to reach 2493.5 MW (the largest in Asia ) and to 7,239 MW in 2025 (the largest in the world).

He further said there are four geothermal projects which are scheduled to achieve Commercial Operation Date (COD) this year. They are:
1. PLTP Ulubelu Unit 3, 55 MW developed by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy
2. PLTP Lahendong Unit 5, 20 MW (PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy)
3. PLTP Sarulla Unit 1, 110 MW (Consortium of SOL Ltd Medco, Ormat, Itochu dan Kyushu)
4. PLTP Karaha Unit 1, 30 MW (PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy).
