A consortium comprising of PT Hitay Daya Energy and PT Dyfco Energy is seen to be temporarily leading against its competitor state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina in the second stage tender process for the Gunung Talang-Bukit Kili geothermal working area in West Sumatra.

Yunus Saifulhak, Director of Geothermal at the Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said on Thursday that the two companies have passed the second round bidding process.

But he said that based on the first envelop, the Hitay-Dyfco consortium obtained higher score of 82.3 particularly in terms of work program compared to 79.08 for Pertamina, which leads in exploration commitment.

Yunus said that the winning bidder will be decided after the second envelop, which contains bid price of the electricity to be produced by the planned geothermal power plant project, has been opened.

He said that while the tender committee has proposed for the second envelop to be opened on September 23, the exact schedule will be decided by the minister of energy and mineral resources.

The 27,000-ha Gunung Talang-Bukit Kili geothermal working area, located in Solok Regency, has estimated reserves of 65 MW, and a planned capacity development of 20 MW. Ceiling price for the geothermal project is set at 14.6 US cent per kWh, with a commercial operation date target of 2022.
