PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state-owned electricity firm PT PLN, plans to build three new power plants this year including a 150 MW gas-fired plant in Bali, 110 MW geothermal plant in West Java, and a 55 MW coal-fired plant in East Kalimantan.

Kontan daily quoted on Monday Indonesia Power President Director Supangkat Iwan Santoso as saying that construction of the Rp 2 trillion gas-fired power plant, which will be located in Pesanggrahan, Denpasar, the capital of Bali, will be divided into two stages. The first 50 MW stage will be completed at the end of this year. He said that the entire 150 MW will be completed in two years time.

State-controlled engineering firm PT Wijaya Karya Tbk has been appointed as lead of the consortium assigned to develop the project, to be financed internally by PLN. Indonesia Power is currently in the preparation stage including land acquisition process.

Gas supply for the power plant will come from the Bontang LNG planned owned by state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, will buy LNG at US$17 per mmbtu, which also includes transportation and regasification costs. ?The contract is still under discussion with Pertamina, ? Supangkat said.

The electricity price to be produced by the Pesanggrahan gas-fired plant has been set at Rp 1,100 per Kwh, cheaper than the Rp 2,500 per Kwh of electricity produced by petroleum fuel-fired plant.

Meanwhile, construction of the Rp 4 trillion geothermal power plant, located in Tangkuban Perahu, West Java, is expected to be completed in 2018.

The Rp 1.25 trillion coal-fired power plant, to be located in Kutai Kertanegara Regency, will be a mine-mouth power plant developed in a joint venture with coal miner PT Baramulti Suksessarana Tbk, Supangkat said. (*)
