KS Orka begins drilling works in Sorik Merapi geothermal project

SGX-listed KS Orka Renewables Pte Ltd (KS Orka) said it has begun with drilling works in the 240 MW Sorik Merapi geothermal project North Sumatra Province.

The company said in a statement late last week that the first drilling rig operated by Dati is proceeding with drilling works on pad A and another drilling rig from KS Drilling is being mobilized for another area in the concession, pad E.

KS Orka said its team aims for bringing the first pilot power plant into operation in 2017.

KS Orka is a joint venture between Hugar Orka ehf, an Icelandic company and Zhejiang Kaishan Compressor Co., Ltd (Kaishan), which is listed on the Shenzhen stock exchange. KS Orka combines the Icelandic knowledge in geothermal development with Kaishan?s power plant technology and manufacturing expertise to form Asia?s only vertically integrated geothermal and waste energy company. KS Orka brings to the project some of the most experienced geothermal experts and power project developers in the world.
