Medco to build 2x800 MW power plant in W. Java

IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk plans to build a 2x800 MW combined-cycle power plant in West Java to support the government?s ambition to develop a combined 35,000 MW power plants over the next five years.

Medco Energi President Director Lukman Mahfoedz said that this company had on Friday signed a head of agreement with state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina for the supply 250 mmscfd of gas for the planned power plant.

Lukman did not say where Pertamina will get the required gas.

Called the combined-cycle Java-1 power plant, Lukman said that the project is targeted to be completed in 2019-2020. He added that the specific location for the project would be determined by state-owned power firm PT PLN.

Medco Energy through its subsidiary PT Medco Power has been operating a number of power plants with combined capacity of 1,600 MW including in Batam, South Sumatra, and Central Java. The company is currently engaged in the development of two geothermal power plants namely the 3x110 MW Sarulla plant in North Sumatra, and the 2x55 MW Ijen plant in East Java, as well as a number of mini hydro power plants. ?Over the next three years, our combined capacity of power plants will increase to 2,100 MW,?
