The Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) plans to offer nine geothermal working areas via tender this year, Kontan reported on Tuesday.
Director of Geothermal at the ministry, Trisnaldi said that the tender would only be realized once the revision of the Geothermal Law has been completed and approved. He hoped that the revision of the law could be approved by lawmakers on June 4 as scheduled.
Among of the nine geothermal working areas to be offered include Kamojang, Derajat, Poyong, Hindu, Ledong (West Java), Hulu Bulu (Lampung), and Gunung Lawu (Central and East Java).
He declined to provide further details, but said that winning bidders will be required to deposit US$10 million worth of guarantee funds to make sure that the investors seriously realize the geothermal projects. (*)
