The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has declared state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina as the winning bidder for the Gunung Lawu geothermal working area.
The Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy said in a statement Friday that Pertamina offered the lowest power price of 10 US cent per kWh for the planned geothermal power plant in the area, compared to 14.47 US cents per kWh offered by its closest competitor PT Star Energy Geothermal Indonesia.
The more than 60,000-ha Gunung Lawu geothermal area, with electricity generation capacity potential of 165 MW, spans a number of regencies in the provinces of Central and East Java.
