PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a subsidiary of state owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero), is accelerating the completion of geothermal energy projects in various parts of the country.

The firm is developing the Unit 5 of PLTP Kamojang in West Java and targets the project to come onstream in August 2015. The Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) contract of the project was signed in August 2013 with a construction period of two years, PHE?s President Director Rony Gunawan said recently.

Meanwhile, at the Unit 3 of PLTP Ulubelu in Lampung, the firm has found enough geothermal steam enough to generate 55 MW of power. ?The EPCC of the project can be started in July this year. Based on plans, the power plant is projected to start production in July 2016,? Roni said.

At the KRH-5/2 well in Karaha working area, West Java, the firm has found geothermal steam enough to generate 6 MW. The discovery brought the geothermal reserve already found by the firm to 26 MW. That mean the firm will only need another 4 MW reserve there to meet the target of developing a 30 MW power plant there.

This year, PGE targets to produce 3,036 GWH of power, higher compared to 2,961.85 GWH last year.
