PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a wholly owned subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero), is aiming to increase its power generation capacity to 847 MW by 2018.

"Currently (2014), our installed capacity is 402 MW. God willing, by 2018 the capacity will reach 847 MW, which means more than double within 4 years," said PGE's President Director Rony Gunawan, in Jakarta, on Tuesday.

He said various constraints are confronting the company such as difficulties to get permits from the Ministry of Forestry, because most of the PGE?s working areas overlap conservation and protection forest, so the licensing process takes a long time.

"We continue facing challenges in our efforts to increase the installed capacity," he said.

Rony also added PGE is aiming to increase its power generation capacity to 2.3 gigawatts (GW) by 2025, five times of the current capacity.
