PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, has teamed up with the Agency for Technology Assessment and Application (BPPT) in the development of a 3 MW geothermal power plant in Kamojang, West Java, Investor Daily reported on Saturday.

The paper quoted General Manager of PGE Kamojang Unit, Wawan Darmawan was saying that under the cooperation, his company will supply steam from Kamojang geothermal well to the small-scale power plant being developed and to be operated by BPPT as part of technology research by the latter.

The power plant will be located in Kamojang area, and is expected to enter trial production in May of this year.

He said that the research by BPPT is aimed at helping the country to obtain capacity in developing geothermal power plant technology. Under the plan, BPPT will be in charge of construction design, while state-owned PT Nusantara Turbin & Propulsi, PT Barata Indonesia, and PT Pindad will manufacture the required components.

Because the steam is for trial production of a small scale power plant, and research purposes, PGE will not yet charge BPPT, he added.(*)
