PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, in cooperation with UK-based Green Energy Geothermal, will apply the portable wellhead geothermal power plant at its 2 MW Sibayak geothermal project, located in Karo, North Sumatra Province.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a statement on Thursday that if the technology is successful, the Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy will apply it in similar small-scale geothermal power plant projects with capacity of 2-3 MW particularly in the eastern part of Indonesia.

Director General of New and Renewable Energy Yunus Saefulhak said that if successful, small-scale geothermal power plant project using wellhead geothermal generator can cost less than microhydro power plant project.
