PLN begins campaign to expand Mataloko geothermal power plant

State-owned electricity company PLN said it has started campaign to expand the 1x2.5 MW Mataloko geothermal power plant in Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province following recent public expose of the project.

PLN said in a statement Thursday that the Mataloko power plant expansion project is part of the government?s program to develop a combined 35,000 MW power plants until 2019.

PLN, which in January was assigned with the Mataloko geothermal working area, plans to develop an additional 2x10 MW power plant, which is expected to be completed in 2019.

The Mataloko geothermal working area covers around 996 hectares, where according to a study by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources holds potential to produce up to 60 MW electricity. PLN said it will review the current geothermal reserves.
