PLN resumes drilling at Tulehu geothermal project

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN held on Tuesday a ground-breaking ceremony to officially start the drilling of TLU-D1 geothermal well at the Tulehu geothermal work area in Maluku Tengah Regency, Maluku Province, as the utility resumes drilling activity in the area which was suspended in 2011.
Director of Geothermal at the Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yunus Saefulhak said that PLN will drill four new geothermal wells at Tulehu as the company plans to develop a 2x10 MW geothermal power plant with commercial operation date (COD) target in 2020.
PLN signed in March of 2013 a loan agreement with Japan?s JICA to help finance the project, estimated to require investment of US$103 million.
