Sarulla geothermal power plant set for commercial operation next month

PT Medco Power Indonesia, a subsidiary of IDX-listed PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk, is finalizing the commissioning stage of the first unit 110 MW of the Sarulla geothermal power plant in Tapanuli Utara Regency, North Sumatra Province, to meet the scheduled commercial operation date of November 23.

?In accordance with the schedule, the COD of the first unit is November 23. It is still at the commissioning stage,? said Erwin Fazil Alkatiri, President Director of PT Medco Power, a leader of the consortium developing the power plant project.

The Sarulla geothermal power plant will have a combined installed capacity of 330MW, being developed in three phases, each 110 MW capacity. The second and third unit are expected to be commissioned in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Sarulla Operations Ltd. (SOL), is a consortium comprising of PT Medco Power Indonesia (27.5%), Ormat Technologies (12.75%), Japan based Itochu (25%) and Kyushu Electric (25%).
