PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power is likely to delay drilling of the first exploration well at its geothermal concession in Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra, to the second week of October 2016, according to an official at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
?Drilling plans (of the first exploration well) may delay to the second week of this October,? Director of Geothermal at the Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the ministry, Yunus Saefulhak, told Petromindo.com.
He said the company will need for time to carry out public campaign of the drilling program, and to deal with other non-technical matters.
In August, Government Relations Manager of the company Irfansyah said that PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power had originally scheduled the drilling program to be held in September 2016. The company is targeting to drill around three to four exploration wells in 2016. He added that the company is targeting to drill around eight wells in the second quarter of 2017. ?So totally, we will drill around 11 wells by the first semester of 2017.?
SGX-listed KS Orka Renewables Ltd currently owns the 240 MW Sorik geothermal power plant project in North Sumatra, following the acquisition of 100 percent of PT OTP Geothermal Pte Ltd from Origin Energy Geothermal Singapore Pte Ltd and Tata Power International Pte Ltd. PT OTP Geothermal owns 95 percent of PT Sorik Merapi Geothermal Power, the owner of the Sorik geothermal power plant project.
