Three firms are now competing for the Gunung Lawu geothermal working area after passing the first bidding round.

The Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy said in a statement late last week that the three firms included PT Ormat Geothermal Indonesia, PT Pertamina, and PT Star Energy Geothermal Indonesia.

Meanwhile, PT Sari Prima Energi, and a consortium of PT Bumi Nusa Permai and PT Humpuss Transportasi Kimia failed to pass the first bidding round.

The more than 60,000-ha Gunung Lawu geothermal area, with electricity generation capacity potential of 165 MW, spans a number of regencies in the provinces of Central and East Java.
