Three geothermal power plants to start operation end 2016

Three geothermal power plants with combined capacity of 185 MW are set to start commercial operation at the end of next year, Bisnis Indonesia reported Thursday.

The paper quoted Director General of New and Renewable Energy Rida Mulyana as saying that the three geothermal power plants included PLTP Sarulla unit 1 (110 MW), Ulubelu unit 3 (55 MW), and Karaha Bodas unit 1 (30 MW).

The Ulubelu power plant in Lampung, and Karaha Bodas in Tasikmalaya, West Java, are operated by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina. Sarulla unit 1 in North Sumatra is operated by PT Medco Power Indonesia.(*)
