The government is set to hold tender this year for two geothermal working areas in Gunung Lawu, East Java Province, and in Danau Ranau, which spans Lampung and South Sumatra Provinces, Kompas reported Saturday.

?The geothermal potential in Gunung Lawu is 55 MW, while in Danau Ranau the potential is 110 MW. The two areas are ready for tender this year,? said Trisnaldi, Director of Geothermal at the Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy on Friday.

The government has been trying to increase the use of geothermal as a source of energy for electricity production. Trisnaldi said that Indonesia?s geothermal potential stands at around 28,600 MW, but so far only about 4 percent has been utilized. (*)
