Sumatra Coal Transportation and Logistic Infrastructures Outlook

By : Petromindo

Background

Sumatra has been known with its abundant coal resources but was still less exploited mainly due to the lack of supporting transportation and logistics infrastructure to transport the coal from mining site to destination markets of overseas and domestic.

Data from Geological Agency shows Sumatra has 56 billion tons of resource with 12 billion tons of reserve out of the country’s total 149 billion tons of resource as of 2019.

As much of Sumatra’s coal deposits lie far away from coastal ports, transportation infrastructure such as dedicated railways, hauling road, river transportation system and other supporting logistic should be a key to exploit Sumatra’s coal reserve.

The webinar would explore the latest developments of coal transportation and logistics infrastructure in Sumatra in a bid to meet the expected growing coal production in Sumatra. The webinar would also assess how Covid-19 pandemic effecting the ongoing projects related to coal transportation and logistics.
