Addressing the Complex Challenges in Meeting Power Shortages in Indonesia

Distinguished by its geographical characteristics, Indonesia is richly endowed with a large base of primary energy resources including oil, natural gas, coal, and considerable hydroelectric and geothermal potentials. Thus, by definition, these resources supposedly are sufficient not only to meet the domestic energy demand but also to provide substantial export earnings on energy resources. However, despite its rich natural energy resources, Indonesia is grappling with a shortage in adequately meeting its power demands.

With a relatively limited extent of progress in the deregulation of its power sector and considerable state ownership in Indonesia, the country is struggling to implement its expansion plan for new project developments in meeting the power deficiency. As such, each practitioner who conducts business in Indonesia or deals with Indonesia’s market needs to be updated on the latest
pressing issues in the Indonesian power sector, which at present heavily influences the economy as a whole and will eventually affect the economic and business growth in the country.

Featuring a mixed panel of 19 key practitioners and leading experts in the energy sector including Indonesia’s regulatory and government bodies, association, energy companies, banks, law firms, and professional services and energy consultants in the region; Asia Business Forum is pleased to present our inaugural Indonesia Power Conference which will discuss the latest
updates on Indonesia’s policies for energy and strategies in optimising and securing the long-term electricity supply in the nation.

This 2-day comprehensive Conference will unveil the many opportunities for joint ventures and business investments in the Indonesia power sector. Through key presentations from the regulatory bodies, explore the various Indonesian government initiatives for foreign investments in the nation’s power sector and strategies to develop the power sector. This Conference will also provide an opportunity to understand the regulatory framework and investment processes for power projects in Indonesia; discover the best project financing strategies for power projects; and examine the alternative energy sources that can be
implemented in Indonesia to ensure a more reliable and continuous power supply to propel the economy into a new era of economic growth.
