11 nickel smelters to come into operation through 2016

There are 11 nickel smelter projects now under construction, scheduled to come into operation this and next year, according a senior governmental official
?This year, six smelters will come into operator, followed by five others next year,? Director General of Minerals and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources R. Sukhyar said on Tuesday.
The smelter projects that are scheduled to come into operation this year are as follows:
1. PT Sambas Minerals Mining which is building a US$10 million ferronickel smelter with a production capacity of 1,000 mt per month. It is equipped with rotary kiln - electric furnace (RKEF) technology.
2. PT Macika Mineral Industri which is building a $61 million ferronickel smelter with a production capacity of 53,680 mt per year and nickel content of 12 percent. The smelter will consist of three lines of production each with an investment of $20 million.
3. PT Karyatama Konawe Utara which is investing $45 million to build a nickel pig iron smelter with a production capacity of 50,000 mt per year and nickel content of between 8 to 10 percent.
4. PT Bintang Delapan which is investing $636 million to build a ferronickel smelter
5. PT Fajar Bhakti Lintas Nusantaran which is building a Rp 200 billion nickel smelter.
6. PT Gebe Sentra Nickel which is building a $150 million smelter with a production capacity of 6,000 tons of fine nickel per year.
The five smelter projects that will come into operation in 2016 are as follows:
1. PT Jilin Metal will invest $270 million to build a ferronickel smelter.
2. PT PAM Metalindo will invest $100 million to build a ferronickel smelter
3. PT Putra Mekongga Sejahtera will invest $25 million for a nickel pig iron smelter
4. PT Ang Fang Brother will invest $18 million to build a nickel pig iron smelter. The firm is finalizing the construction of its jetty.
5. PT Bima Cakra Perkasa Mineralindo will invest around Rp. 719 billion for a nickel pig iron smelter.
