13 new oil and gas fields to begin production this year

The head of oil and gas upstream regulator BPMIGAS, R. Priyono, said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the 13 new fields included Tangguh, Banyu Urip, North Duri, Lengowangi-1, and Tunu 13A .
Priyono said that the total investment for the development of the 13 oil and gas fields reached about US$11.96 billion. "As many as 2,666 wells have been drilled in the 13 oil and gas fields," he added.
According to him, the Tangguh field in West Papua which is operated by BP Tangguh, absorbed the largest investment which reached about $7.21 billion.
Priyono also said that the country's total net crude oil production totaled 955,000 barrels per day in April, exceeding the government's target of 927,000 barrels per day. In March, the total production reached 958,000 barrels per day.
"We hope, the total oil production will reach one million barrels per day by the end of this year," he added. (Bernard/godang)
