130 MW mini hydropower plants under construction in Sumatra

As many as 18 mini hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 130 MW are now under construction in various parts of Sumatra, state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said.

This was said by PLN?s Business Director for Sumatra Regions Amir Rosidin on the sidelines of the signing of Power Purchasing Agreements (PPA) for 18 renewably energy power plant projects on Monday.

Mini hydropower plant, known here by the acronym PLTM, is defined as power plant with capacity of between 100 kW and 10 MW.

He also said as of May 2016, a number of mini hydropower plants with a total capacity of 115 MW are already in operation on the island, scattered in various in 31 locations.

Amir revealed the composition of energy mix at Sumatera electricity system is now gas with 35.7 percent, coal 3.6 percent, hydro 16 percent, geothermal 2.7 percent and diesel oil 13 percent.
