As many as 154 foreign and local investors, mostly mining investors, had delayed investment plans worth US$300 million in Central Kalimantan due to concerns over political instability in the province.
Head of the provincial chapter of the Association of Indonesian Construction Companies (Gapensi) Tahunjung Aji said the 154 investors had planned to realize the investment plans by March this year but they decided to delay it until the government approve the election of the new governor of the province.
He said the new governor had been elected democratically on Jan. 20, 2000 but the government thus far refused to install him.
The paper did not reveal the reasons why the government refused to install the new governor.
"Investors are worried that 'something' will happen. Thereby, they delayed their investment plans," he said. (*)
