A total of 18 illegal miners were killed in a landslide incident at a gold mine in Goa Boma Village, Sakatanic District, Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan, on Saturday.

Raden Hafidz, an official at the National Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency, told Petromindo.com Sunday that the miners including 16 men and two women were trapped underground following the landslide which took place at about 2 p.m. Jakarta time. The victims have been evacuated.

?The soil at the mine is actually unstable that it fell down when the miners kept digging it,? he told petromindo.com via phone.
