18 more Vi-Gas stations will be opened in Jakarta

At least 18 more liquefied gas for vehicle (LGV) stations will be opened in Jakarta this year to give private car owners cheaper alternative fuel when the government formally removes fuel subsidy for private cars in the capital beginning April.

Director General of Oil and Gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Evita Legowo said in Jakarta recently that LGV or also called Vi-Gas is relatively safer than Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) because of its lower pressure .

She said that as its price is only about Rp 3,600 (1US$ = Rp 9,063) per liter equivalent, Vi-Gas could become a good alternative to Pertamax, which is currently sold more than Rp 7,500 per liter. But for car owners who want to use the gas, they should buy a converter kit which is sold about Rp 10 million each.

Beginning April, private cars in Jakarta are no longer allowed to buy the subsidized Premium gasoline. (giok)
