About 200 employees of Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) will likely move to Riau oil firm Bumi Siak Pusako which will take over and operate the oil giant?s Coastal Plain Pekanbaru (CPP) oil block in the province in August this year.

Bumi Siak Pusako?s spokesman Kamaruzzaman said in Pekanbaru on Tuesday that most of the employees were currently working at the CPP oil block. "We hope all the CPP employees will move to Bumi Siak," he added.

According to him, Bumi Siak Pusako which is owned by the Riau provincial administration, offer higher salaries and better working condition. "They will receive more than those given by Caltex to ensure that they will be able to work better than in Caltex," he added.

The CPP oil block is part of Caltex Pacific Indonesia?s oil concession areas in Riau. The oil block will, however, be transferred to the government in August after its contract ends. Pertamina and Bumi Siak Pusako have agreed to jointly operate the oil block.

At present, the oil block produces 40,000 barrels per day, far lower than 70,000 barrels per day in the previous years.(*)
