East Kalimantana's mines and energy office, in cooperation with the Office of Surface Mining (OSM), an agency under the United States' Department of Interior, had put out the fire of coal hot spots in 22 locations in East Kalimantan but their job is far from over as new coal hot spots had been found in 200 location, Kaltim Post reported.

Head of the province's mines and energy office Istiardjo said the province needed another Rp 20 billion to put out the newly-found coal hot spots.

He said the province would ask the central government to give the province a larger share in coal royalty revenues to cover among others the cost of putting out the hot spots.

He said the cooperation agreement between his office and OSM to put out the hot spots would expire in April this year and the agency had offered to extend the contract. (*)
