As many as 300 workers of a contractor of oil producer PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) in Riau have been on strike since Sunday, halting the operation of eight oil rigs of CPI, vice president of CPI?s Jakarta office, W. Yudiana, told Petromindo.com on Tuesday.
Of the eight oil rigs, six are located in the Minas Block and two in the Duri Block, Yudiana said.
The workers went on strike after PT Boromindo Nusantara, CPI?s contractor, declined to raise their pay for extra working hours.
Yudiana said they were calculating the losses incurred by his company due to the workers? strike.
Caltex oil output from all of its oil blocks in Riau totals 620,000 barrels per day (bpd).
The company?s contract to operate its Riau oil blocks should have been ended in August of last year, but it was extended for a year to give Riau and Pertamina more time to prepare fo the take over of the oil blocks. (Godang)
