Business environment in Central Kalimantan is improving. This is proven by the entrance of 26 new investors into the province, that would likely mine coals in the areas.

Central Kalimantan governor Drs H Asmawi Agani said in Palangkaraya on Wednesday that mining investment in the first semester of this year reached Rp 2.793 billion or $1.4 million, with coal mining activities covering an area totaling 1.8 million hectares.

Speaking to reporters after handing over three third generation coal mining contracts to investors, the governor said that the improvement in coal mining business environment should drive economic activities in the province, and contribute significant revenue to local governments and local people.

He called on new and prospective investors to pay attention to the interest of local people so that the investors could succeed working with them. One of the main problems that investors should take care of is the possibility that their mining concessions are located in areas that traditionally belong to local people. If that is the case, the investors are urged to settle the problems amicably.

The governor also called on the businessmen to improve their mining activities and minimize the possibility of destroying the environment with their waste. Otherwise, they would face local people who are increasingly becoming more critical. (*)
