400 former workers of Vico demand higher severance pay

Some 400 laid off workers of oil and gas producer PT Vico Indonesia on Tuesday marched to the East Kalimantan provincial council (DPRD) in Samarinda to ask it pressing the firm for increasing their severance pay.

They told DPRD members that what they had received was much lower than the amounts stipulated by existing government regulations, Kaltim Post daily reported.

One of the workers said he should have received a total of Rp256 million (US$1=Rp8830), but Vico had given him only Rp 124 million.

Vico had laid off the 400 workers since 2000.

The company produces oil and gas in its Bontang fields in East Kalimantan. Its gas goes to Badak NGL?s liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Bontang. (*)
