43 firms pass 10,000 MW prequalification tender

As many as 43 firms and joint ventures have passed the pre-qualification tender for the contracts to build the 10,000 MW coal fired power plant projects under the so-called ?Crash Program?.

Chinese firms, either individually or in joint ventures with local companies, dominate the list of the companies that passed the pre-qualification process, unveiled by the government on Monday. The firms include among others Chengda Engineering Corp, Dongfeng Electric Corporation, Hubei First Electric Power, China National Electrical Equipment Corp.

The list, which was unveiled by Yogo Pratomo, the head of the Team for the Acceleration of the Crash Porgram, also includes several Japanese firms such as Itochu, Marubeni and Mitsubishi.

The bidders were divided into two groups, that is the group of bidders that are bidding for projects with the capacity of between 600-700 MW and the group of bidders that want to build 300-400 MW power projects. State electricity company PT PLN, which handles the tendering process, received 25 bidding documents for 600-700 MW projects, but only 19 of them passed the prequalification tender. Meanwhile, of 34 documents sent to PLN from companies bidding for the 300-400 MW projects, only 24 managed to pass the pre-qualification process.

Toni Tondojoyo Suyono, one of the PLN bidding team head, that the qualified bidders have been asked to submit their final bidding documents, based on which the PLN bidding team would decide the winners of the projects.
