At least 49 domestic and foreign investors are committed to mining mineral potentials in Central Kalimantan, according to the head of the province's mines and energy office, Abdul Fattah Yoesoef.
Abdul Fattah said on Thursday that out of the 49 investors, 15 investors held mining contracts of works (KKP), 15 investors had coal mining agreement (PKP2B), and 19 investors had mining licenses (KP).
He said that mineral mining activities had become the main source of income for the local administrations.
He noted that the provincial administration would continue its efforts in attracting both domestic and foreign investors to do business in the province to anticipate the implementation of autonomy law in 2001.
Central Kalimantan, the third largest province in Indonesia, contains a large number of minerals, including gold, coal, diamond, and others.
The gold potential is currently mined by PT IMK and thousands of illegal miners scattered in various districts. (*)
