Fifty-five youth organizations, including non-governmental organizations (NGO) in East Kalimantan, are planning to hold rallies to push their demands for liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer PT Badak NGL Co in Bontang to boost its participation in community development, according to East Kalimantan-based daily Kaltim Post.

The paper quoted head of the local chapter of the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI) Amir P. Ali as saying that the rallies would be held this month and protestors would go to Bontang by bus.

He said the province's youth organizations and NGOs were disappointed at the low contribution of the company to the province's community development.

"Just look at how bad the road linking Samarinda and Bontang is. This is despite the presence of two giant companies (in Bontang), that is Badak NGL and (state fertilizer company) PT Pupuk Kaltim. Theoretically, donations from both companies plus funds from the provincial budget will be enough to improve the road," Amir said. (*)
