As many as 69 oil and gas production sharing contractors (PSCs) have complied with the government?s environment protection program as indicated by their achievement in the annual Program for Pollution Control, Evaluation, and Rating (PROPER) recently conducted by the Ministry of Environment.

Oil and gas regulatory body for exploration and production BPMigas said that of the 77 PSCs joining the PROPER program, only eight obtained Red rating which indicated that they had not fully complied with the environment regulations.

The agency?s deputy chairman for securities and formalities Gde Pradnyana said that the PSCs achievement in this year?s PROPER rating program was better than in 2010 during which only 59 of the 70 PSCs joining the rating activities recorded good rating results indicating that they had complied with the environment regulation. The agency said that the other 11 PSCs received a poor rate result.

In 2011 PROPER program, the Rimau block in Sumatra, operated by Medco E&P became the first in oil and gas sector to receive a gold rating, the highest rate grade in the PROPER program. Pertamina Hulu Energi ONWJ received a green rating, the second best rate grade in the program. (romel)
