State owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will receive additional power supply of about 4,830 megawatt (MW) from seven new power plants which are scheduled to begin commercial operation this year.

PLN's president director Dahlan Iskan said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the new power plants which are all located in Java are part of a dozen of coal-fired power plants being built in the Phase One the 10,000 MW power plant development program.

They include PLTU 1 Suralaya (1 x 625 MW) in Banten province, PLTU 3 Lontar (3 x 315 MW) in Banten province, PLTU 1 Indramayu (3 x 330 MW) in West Java, PLTU 2 Pelabuhan Ratu (1 x 350 MW) in West Java, PLTU Rembang (2 x 315 MW) in Central Java, PLTU 1 Pacitan ( 2 x 315 MW) in East Java and PLTU 2 Paiton ( 1 x 660 MW) in East Java.

Dahlan said that in order to speed up the construction of infrastructure facilities such as new power grids for the additional power supplies, the company?s board of directors has issued ?investment power of attorney?, a sort of letter of approval for all PLN?s general managers in provincial levels to begin new projects.

He acknowledged that in the past many projects were delayed because the late issuance of the investment power of attorney from the company?s board of directors.

"The development of (electricity) projects have often been delayed because of late issuance of the investment power of attorney. It is usually issued in March. Preparations (of the project) thus start in April and implementation in August. Thus, there are only five months (in the year to carry out the projects)," Dahlan said. (godang/giok)
