A number of special ports, mostly coal ports, in South Kalimantan violated the government?s regulation No 3, 2012 on transportation of coal, Kompas reported on Saturday.

A senior official of South Kalimantan provincial office, Hadi Susilo, said that many coal ports received ?illegal? coal transported through public roads, instead of roads especially operated by coal miners.

According to the regulation, the coal ports should be used to transport operators? own coal or coal of other coal miners which have mining permits. The coal should be transported to the port through the miners? own roads.

Hadi said that a number of coal ports in the province, however, violated the regulation as they received coal transported through the government roads. The coal mostly came from illegal miners which operate without proper permits.

In South Kalimantan, there are 110 special ports, of which about 80 percent of them consist of coal ports. Of the total, 12 coal ports, located in Tanah Malut and Tanah Bumbu, have violated the regulation.(*)
