ABB, one of the world?s largest transformer makers, through its Indonesia subsidiary PT ABB Sakti Industri is eyeing to supply power storage technology required by state-owned electricity firm PT PLN for East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) provinces, each with capacity of 10 MW.
Reza Alhuda, a senior official at ABB Sakti, told Petromindo.com Tuesday that tender process held by PLN for the procurement of the technology is still in progress, and is expected to be concluded this year.
He said that ABB is also looking to supply its power storage battery to industrial areas still relying on power supply from diesel-fired power generation such as in the mining sector as well as remote tourism spots. He added that the company is currently approaching a coal miner in Kalimantan for the supply of power storage battery and also tourism spot on Rote Island.
Last year, ABB supplied 11 transformers worth US$11 million to PLN, each with capacity of 60 MVA to meet requirements of substations being developed by the utility firm in East Java and Bali.
