East Kalimantan-based coal miner PT Anugerah Bara Kaltim (ABK) produced a total of 3.6 million tons during the January-September period, a company official told Petromindo.Com on Thursday

The company is on track to meet this year's production target of 5 million tons, despite unfavorable weather condition, the official said.

Production from January through June reached 2.5 million tons. Last year, the company produced 4.2 million tons of coal.

The official said that the firm's sales contract with Taiwan's power firm Taipower has expired. ?We will participate in the next (coal supply) tender to be held by Taipower,? the official said, without giving further details.

ABK has hired mining contractor PT Pamapersada Nusantara to handle most of its mining activities.

The company sells most of its coal under long-term contracts with South Korean power firm Kosep and buyers in Taiwan, Japan and India. (denny)
