East Kalimantan-based coal miner PT Anugerah Bara Kaltim (ABK) has produced 2.4 million tonnes (MT) of coal during first semester of this year and it is on track to meet the company?s target of 5.2-5.4 million tonnes, the company?s official told Petromindo.Com on Thursday.

?We are confident to achieve our target for this year as we have come into dry season since June,? the official said. Starting June this year, ABK can produce 450,000 tonnes of coal per month, the official said.

Mining contractor PT Pamapersada Nusantara (Pama) handles 75 percent of ABK?s total production and the remaining is handled by two local contractors including PT Nusa Perdana Indah.

According to the official, all the coal from ABK has been signed up with a buyer overseas under a long-term contract, without identifying the buyer?s names.

The company sells most of its coal under long-term contracts to South Korean power firm Kosep and buyers in Taiwan, Japan and India.

Meanwhile, ABK?s coal mining unit PT Gerbang Daya Mandiri (GDM) has produced 30,000 tonnes per month of coal. GDM mine is located near Samarinda or about 20 kilometers from ABK?s current mine.

GDM's coal has a calorific value of 6,000 kcal/kg (GAR). All the coal from GDM has also been signed up with buyers, the official added.

Last year, ABK produced 5 million tonnes of coal. (denny)
