ABK reports Q1 coal production, sales

East Kalimantan coalminer PT.Anugrah Bara Kaltim said on Thursday that its first quarter 2008 production reached 740,240 tonnes, down from previous year?s same period production of 884,000 tonnes.

General Manager Martusin Yapriadi told Petromindo.Com the decrease was due to heavy rain that hit the mine during the quarter.

Sales for the first quarter reached 710,000 tonnes versus 881,000 tonnes in the same period of 2007.

ABK is targeting around 950,000 tons of coal in the second quarter of 2008, he said.

ABK is expected to produce 3.6-3.8 million tonnes of coal this year.

The company sells majority of its coal production under long-term contracts to South Korean power firm Kosep, Taiwan, Japan and India. (denny)
