ABK resumes coal ops after villagers end blockade

East Kalimantan coal miner PT. Anugerah Bara Kaltim (ABK) has resumed mining and hauling operations on Thursday after the protesters who blockaded the company?s hauling road agreed to disperse, a company official said Friday.

The company official by the name of Elly (one name) said that the villagers, who accused the company of polluting their farms demanded compensation, agreed to negotiate. Elly claimed that the villagers had accepted solution offered by the company. She did not give details.

The company was forced to halt mining and hauling operations on Wednesday after the villagers blockaded hauling road.

ABK produced 3.4 million tones of coal in 2004. (maya)
