Accident kills a foreign worker at Newmont

An accident at the site of gold and copper mining company PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara in Nusa Tenggara Bara has killed a foreign staff of the company.

The accident took place Friday afternoon, a company official, Doddy R. Adiwijaya, told the press over the weekend. No details were given.

But a source said that the foreign worker (a Canadian citizen) was run over by a 200-ton haul truck.

The source also said that the police is currently investigating the case and has asked the company to temporarily stop its mining operation.

Newmont Nusa Tenggara could not be immediately reached for confirmation and further comments.(*)
