Accident kills one Freeport?s contract worker

One contract worker was killed following an accident at PT Freeport Indonesia?s mine in Papua.
The accident occured on Saturday at 1.30 p.m. local time at Enggros Yard, Mile 74, Tembagapura district Mimika regency. A worker of Freeport?s contractor PT Panda Duta Karya Abadi suffered serious injuries during the accident. He was soon evacuated to Tembagapura Hospital but was pronounced dead at 7.45 a.,m., Company VP of Corporate Communications Daisy Primayanti explained.
She did not provide details about the accident.
The victim was then transported by plane to Makassar, South Sulawesi.
Director General of Minerals and Coal R. Sukhyar said a mine inspector has been deployed to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, Kompas.com reported that a pickup truck belonging to PT Sandvic, another contractor of Freeport, slid off the road after crashing into a road embankment at Mil 73, Tembagapura district on Sunday. No serious injuries were reported.
